Last night I came to the realization that my life is so NOT HARD! I was over at the house of the refugee family I work with. I feel like most of you know all of this but they are from Iraq and have seen and survived some very difficult situations but stand by the statement that the Americans are there to free them! I loved it when he told me that, for obvious reasons...ok so back on topic my life isn't hard...and here is why...
A car backfired or a gun was fired - in that neighborhood you can't really be sure...(sorry mom and dad) - simply put there was a very loud noise and it was not familiar. Samir's response to this noise was as follows...
You don't hear that noise here, that is a sound from Iraq but there it is much louder. (he then started to tell me a story-time is a bit unclear) I heard that sound one day, a plane dropped a bomb that had multiple explosions on my neighborhood. There were lots of people injured. I carried my sisters to the hospital to get treatment and learned that all of my neighbors were there. It was a very scary day.
Samir didn't really say anything after that, he went back to his computer - but Liz and I were in a bit of shock. About 5 minutes later he said - those bombs are now outlawed. I can't be sure if this is a story from a war of his childhood or recent times. I just thank the Lord for the life and freedoms we have here, that Samir and his family are now safe from all of that and that my life is not nearly that hard!
